Shifting Our Relationship with Physical Pain: An EFT Tapping Session

Have you ever dealt with chronic pain that interfered with your routine? Maybe it’s a nagging physical pain that just won’t go away, no matter how hard you try to address it. As business owners, we juggle many responsibilities, but sometimes life throws us a curveball in the form of physical discomfort that disrupts our daily activities and joy.

In this episode of the Tapping into Emotional Freedom podcast, I had a heartfelt conversation and quick EFT tapping session with Rachel, a business owner facing a frustrating challenge: chronic toe pain. You might think, “Toe pain? How bad can that be?” But this chronic pain has been impacting Rachel’s ability to enjoy activities she loves—like taking long walks by the ocean. For her, these walks are more than just exercise; they’re a form of relaxation and a way to recharge between work sessions. Lately, though, her peaceful walks have been cut short by pain that flares up unpredictably.

The Emotional Toll of Physical Pain

Rachel’s story isn’t just about physical discomfort. It’s about the emotional toll when our bodies don’t function as we need them to. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, a corporate professional, or a stay-at-home parent, you’ve likely experienced the frustration of chronic pain interfering with your productivity or joy.

During our session, Rachel and I explored how EFT tapping techniques could help her release not just the physical discomfort but also the emotional frustration tied to it. Even though she wasn’t experiencing pain during our conversation, the emotional residue was still there: sadness, frustration, and even some hopelessness about whether anyone could uncover the root of her problem.

The Power of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

For those new to EFT, it’s a powerful tool for releasing stuck emotions and reducing physical discomfort. EFT works by tapping on specific acupressure points while verbally acknowledging your emotions. It sounds simple, but it can create profound shifts in how we feel, both emotionally and physically.

Rachel and I began by acknowledging her frustration—the annoyance of waking up with pain, the limitations it imposed, and the lack of answers from doctors. Together, we tapped through these emotions using setup statements such as:

·         “Even though I feel this frustration because no one has figured out my toe pain, I choose to be open to what this pain is trying to tell me.”

·         “Even if the doctors don’t have answers, I can change my relationship with this pain.”

A Gentle Shift Toward Hope

One of the most powerful moments in our session was when Rachel acknowledged her hope. She said, “A 100% of me believes that hope is going to make a difference.” Sometimes, simply allowing ourselves to hope—even when we don’t fully believe something will work—is enough to start a shift.

By the end of our session, Rachel felt calmer. While her chronic pain hadn’t disappeared (it wasn’t present during the session), her emotional landscape had shifted. The frustration wasn’t as overwhelming. There wasn’t a dramatic “aha” moment, but there was a noticeable softening in the intensity of her emotions.

The beauty of EFT lies in these gentle shifts. It doesn’t always create immediate results, but it helps change how we relate to our challenges, whether they’re physical pain or the emotions tied to them. In fact, Rachel emailed me the next day, sharing her joy at being able to enjoy a longer walk without fear or even thinking about the pain.

Borrowed Benefits: How EFT Helps Everyone

If you’ve been reading along and tapping with us, you might have noticed some relief too. One of the amazing aspects of EFT is the concept of “borrowed benefits.” This means that even as an observer, you can experience emotional or physical shifts by tapping along with someone else’s session.

So, if your issue is different—perhaps back pain or tension in your shoulders—you may still find relief through this process. It’s as though the energy clearing or emotional resolution happening for one person ripples out to benefit others who resonate with similar challenges.

What’s Your Body Telling You?

The next time you’re feeling stuck—whether it’s from pain or emotional weight—ask yourself: What is my body trying to tell me? Sometimes, we’re so caught up in frustration or sadness that we don’t pause to hear the messages our body is sending. Opening yourself up to listen can lead to powerful shifts in both your mind and body.

Rachel’s story serves as a reminder that you’re not alone in your frustrations. There are tools like EFT that can help you reconnect with yourself and release the emotional weight tied to your physical experiences.
