Coping with Grief: Finding Peace After Loss with EFT Tapping
Have you ever found yourself carrying the weight of grief while trying to keep up with the demands of work and life? Losing a loved one is never easy, and when responsibilities don’t stop, navigating grief can feel overwhelming. How do you honor your emotions while continuing to show up for your team, clients, and daily tasks?
This episode comes at a particularly meaningful time for me. This past Sunday, I lost my godmother, and I am also grieving the first anniversary of a dear friend’s sudden passing. It has been a month full of mixed emotions, and Alicia’s story resonates deeply with me even more this week. There is no coincidence that this episode was meant to be aired this week. Grief is a complex journey, and I know firsthand how challenging it can be to hold space for your emotions while still showing up in life and business.
In Episode 11 of Tapping into Emotional Freedom Podcast, I had the privilege of guiding Alicia through this exact challenge. On August 14th, her grandfather passed away in Trinidad and Tobago. Unable to attend the funeral in person, Alicia watched the service via livestream, which provided some comfort but also brought deep sadness and guilt. Despite these heavy emotions, life and business kept moving forward.
Coping with Grief While Managing Work & Life
When Alicia joined me for our session, she was carrying a mix of emotions—sadness, guilt, and a longing to be with her family. We acknowledged that grief doesn’t operate on a convenient timeline, and suppressing emotions only makes them heavier.
The truth is, many professionals and entrepreneurs struggle with balancing grief and work. The pressure to perform can make it difficult to fully process loss. However, finding healthy ways to navigate grief is essential for long-term well-being.
How EFT Tapping Helps Process Grief & Loss
We turned to Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)—a powerful tool to process emotions, regulate the nervous system, and find relief from emotional distress.
During our session, Alicia gave herself permission to be present with her emotions. We used EFT tapping to acknowledge and release feelings of sadness and guilt. Whenever she felt overwhelmed, we slowed down, combining tapping with deep breathing. This gentle process allowed her to return to the present moment without forcing herself to "move on" too quickly.
One of the most profound shifts happened when Alicia redirected her focus. Instead of dwelling on what she couldn’t do—be there physically—she embraced what she could do: honor her grandfather’s memory. Through tapping, we reflected on his teachings, the love he left behind, and the ways he remains present in her life.
Letting Go of Guilt and Embracing Connection
Alicia’s grief carried an undercurrent of guilt—something many people experience after a loss. She felt she “should have” been there, but circumstances didn’t allow it. Through tapping, she released this guilt and embraced self-forgiveness.
By the end of our session, Alicia felt lighter, more at peace, and ready to carry her grandfather’s legacy forward. Instead of feeling stuck in grief, she found a way to integrate his memory into her life with love and gratitude.
Finding Peace After Loss – You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
Alicia’s experience is a powerful reminder that grief doesn’t have to derail your progress—it can become part of your journey toward greater emotional freedom. If you’re struggling with loss while balancing work, know that support is available. EFT tapping for emotional healing can be a profound tool to help you process grief, let go of guilt, and find peace.
