Dealing with Unexpected Health Challenges Using EFT Tapping
Life has a way of surprising us- sometimes in the most challenging ways. And when you’re a business owner, those challenges can feel even heavier. Recently, I had the honor of hosting Abi on the Tapping into Emotional Freedom podcast, where she opened up about a health challenge that turned her world upside down.
Abi and her spouse, both business owners, were shocked when her spouse suddenly lost sight in her left eye. Talk about scary! What began as a sudden, unexplained symptom quickly escalated into a whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, tests, and uncertainty. Thankfully, they learned it wasn’t a stroke, but a minor event that required her spouse to start blood thinners to protect her remaining vision.
While juggling her business, Abi had to find a way to navigate this emotional storm and still show up for her clients. Sound familiar? If you’ve ever had to manage personal crises alongside your business, you’ll appreciate the wisdom in Abi’s story.
The Unexpected Happens
Flexibility in business is key. Abi had to reschedule meetings, postpone appointments, and essentially hit "pause" to focus on what really mattered- her spouse’s health. Here's the lesson: when life throws a curveball, give yourself permission to adjust. You can't be everywhere all at once, and that's okay.
Acknowledge the Emotional Toll
Abi may have appeared calm on the outside, but internally, her stress was high. How often do we all do this—projecting calm while feeling completely overwhelmed? Abi’s story reminds us that it’s crucial to acknowledge what we’re going through. Taking a moment to admit, “This is a lot,” is the first step toward managing the weight of it all.
Juggling Business and Personal Life Is No Joke
When your personal and professional lives collide, finding balance can feel impossible. Abi shared that both she and her spouse were trying to keep things running smoothly in their businesses while managing this health scare. It’s a reminder to give yourself grace in these moments. You’re not superhuman, and that's perfectly fine.
Managing Stress with EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
During our tapping session, we worked through Abi’s stress, helping her process and release some of the heavy emotions. EFT is a simple, yet powerful way to reduce stress, and after just a few minutes of tapping, Abi’s stress level dropped from a six to a four. Her neck and shoulder tension? Nearly gone. While the challenges were still there, she was already reclaiming a sense of calm and control.
Be Gentle with Yourself
One of the most important takeaways from Abi’s story is the need for self-compassion. As entrepreneurs, we’re often so busy taking care of everyone else- clients, employees, family- that we forget to take care of ourselves. So, check in with yourself. Be kind. Give yourself the space to feel and process what’s happening.
You Are Not Alone
If you’re facing something similar, remember: it’s okay to pause, it’s okay to ask for help, and it’s okay to take care of yourself first. Managing stress isn’t about getting rid of it completely- it’s about finding ways to navigate it with grace and strength so you can continue to thrive, both in your business and your personal life.
