Easing Political Tension and Fear with EFT Tapping

This became a central theme in my recent podcast episode with Annie, an Organizational Development Consultant who specializes in conflict resolution. Despite her expertise in managing difficult conversations, Annie found herself worried with tension following the recent presidential inauguration.

“I just feel like there’s a pit in my stomach,” she shared. “Whatever you think of the change in power, people just seem very on edge in a way that feels much harsher than I’ve felt in a while. And I’m just sensitive to that.”

EFT tapping is a simple yet effective method to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and shift the way we process heavy emotions. By tapping on specific meridian points while acknowledging our feelings, we give ourselves permission to feel, release, and move forward with more clarity and peace. As Annie went through the tapping process, she noticed shifts in her body. “My chest isn’t as tight, but my upper back was really tight throughout that whole thing, which was interesting,” she observed. This is a common experience—stress moves and changes as we acknowledge it, rather than staying stuck.

How You Can Use EFT to Process Political Stress?

If you’re feeling the weight of the current political climate, try this short tapping sequence: (Get this free resource to learn more about EFT tapping).

  1. Identify Your Emotions – Are you feeling anxious, angry, hopeless, or drained? Where do you feel it in your body?

  2. Acknowledge Without Judgment – Create your set up statement: “Even though I feel [emotion], I choose to have compassion for myself.” Repeat it 3 times as you tap on the side of the hand.

  3. Tap Through the Points – Using your fingertips, gently tap on the top of your head, eyebrows, side of eyes, under the eyes, under the nose, chin, collarbones, and underarms.

  4. Breathe and Notice Shifts – As you tap, notice if the sensation moves or changes. It may lessen, shift locations, or feel different in intensity.

The goal isn’t to ignore or suppress how you feel but to allow your body and mind to process it in a healthier way.
